Cheapest build to date.

This week at Wirespeed, we had a challenge to build the cheapest computer possible, but all parts had to be purchased off the shelf, no used parts, and had to be fully functional. Using an AMD Sempron 145, Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 Motherboard, a cooler master case with 500w power supply included, 2gb Crucial Ballistix RAM, Team Dominick and Jesse built a $90 computer.

As you may or may not know, when buying parts at certain retailers, you get a "Bundle discount" for buying certain parts together. In this case they managed to get a bundle deal on an AMD CPU and A Gigabyte motherboard which effectively reduced their cost for those components to zero after a $10 mail in rebate. This isn't a deal you see all the time, but getting to know a store associate who knows the ins and outs of it's product line really helps. (Thanks Gary)

The PC they built has a surprising array of feature for a budget build including 3 monitor support, HDMI, USB 3.0, and the even managed to unlock the hidden core on the sempron to make it a dual core. Good job guys.

On a side note, they built 2 of these and were still the winners of the pc build by about $185.

Let the modding begin

For all you PC gamers out there, the newest Grand Theft Auto game will soon be yours. Rockstar, the games developer said the game should be available this fall, and will be available for PC, as well as major consoles. The game modding community is already buzzing about what new mods will be available. If you're unfamiliar with what modding is, you're probably a console gamer ;-) Modding is basically installing a piece of software that modifies your game files and allows you to change some aspects of the game. "How much?" you might ask...imagine loading up GTA 5 and playing as Cloud from final fantasy 7, while driving the batmobile, while the spy hunter theme music plays on every station. Seem far fetched? I suggest taking a peek over here.

PC Gaming is the future.

Globally, PC gaming sales now over shadow all console gaming combined. Tech analysts agree that we will continue to see growth in this market, and that the next 5 years will be huge. Now, they've been making components for years marketed as "Republic of gamers" editions, but PC gaming is becoming such a huge phenomenon that even Asus has begun making gaming specific systems that look suspiciously like gaming consoles.

We here at Wire Speed are proud to announce we will be offering Custom Gaming PC Builds. We'll build them small enough to hide away in the entertainment system, or large enough to showcase and intimidate.
